“80 million” on final screening of the 5th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners

Dear all,

Next week, on the 21st of January, we would like to invite you to the final screening of the 5th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners. For our finale we have chosen Waldemar Krzystek’s “80 million” and invited the director himself to tell you more about the film.

“80 Million”, with its action-adventure vibe, tells the fairly recent story of Wrocław and Poland. 10 days before the martial law was introduced in Poland, a group of Solidarity members in Wrocław try to withdraw 80 million PLN from the bank, before the Security Service blocks their account. Maks, Janek, Władek, Piotrek and Staszek will try everything to break the communist system.

This screening is a unique opportunity to see Wrocław on a big screen.

The special guest of the screening will be the film’s director Waldemar Krzystek, Polish film director and screenwriter with strong connections to Wrocław. Author of works such as “Suspended” (1986), “Dismissed from life” (1992), “Little Moscow” (2008) and “The Photographer” (2014). Awarded at many festivals including International Film Festival in San Sebastian, International Film Festival in Moscow and Gdynia Film Festival. As always the discussion after the screening will be hosted by Adam Kruk, a journalist and film critic in charge of the programme of Polish Cinema for Beginners.

Polish Cinema for Beginners is a project addressed to everyone interested in the history of Polish cinema and it is organised fully in English, which enables not only Polish but also foreign residents of Wrocław to participate. This is the very first film event of its kind in Wrocław and in all of Poland as it focuses on the non-Polish speaking audience, who up until now did not have the opportunity to watch Polish film classics on the big screen.Up until this point our audience had an opportunity to watch such films as “Mother Joan of the Angels” by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, “Man of Marble” by Andrzej Wajda, “Reverse” by Borys Lankosz and Agnieszka Holland’s “In darkness”

The screening of “80 million” will take place on the 21th of January in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema at 19:00. Tickets can be purchased in the box office before the screening or on www.kinonh.pl. For more information about the project please go towww.polishcinema.com.pl and www.facebook.com/polishcinema

This project is a part of European Capital of Culture programme and has been brought to you by Wrocławska Fundacja Filmowa.
