“The Wedding” di Wojciech Smarzowski

Dear all,

This coming Thursday it’s time for another screening of Polish Cinema for Beginners – a series presenting Polish film classics with English subtitles.  On the 12thof November we will invite the audience to Nowe Horyzonty Cinema for a screening of digitally restored “Wedding” by Wojciech Smarzowski.

“The wedding” is a full-length debut by Wojciech Smarzowski – one of the most original contemporary Polish directors, beloved by the viewers and film critics, author of films such as “The Dark House” (2009), “Rose” (2011), “Traffic Department” (2013) and “The mighty angel” (2014).
The film received many prestigious awards such as three Gold Lions at Gdynia Film Festival, Jury Honorary Mention at the International Film Festival in Karlove Vary and the Youth Jury Award in Locarno.
This bitter-sweet comedy about a traditional countryside wedding and its ironic depiction of Polish society is now considered a cult movie in Poland. The film will be presented in a digitally restored version. The main character is a rich gardener from a subcarpathian village, who marries off his only daughter. Wanting to present himself in the best possible light, he accidentally starts a series of unexpected events, turning the wedding into a catastrophe, or maybe just one big farce?

Recently she started Hashtag Warsztat- a YouTube vlog about film and popculture. As always Adam Kruk, responsible for the programme of PCFB, will be there to moderate the meeting.
